Meet the athlete: Martina Kuenz

Here comes a real power woman. Unthoughtful comments should be avoided with her if you do not want to lie on the mat in seconds. Because our phantom athlete is ready to climb the top of the world of ring sports. After an extremely successful time in the junior field, she also started her triumph in the U23 area and tirelessly pursues her great goal Olympia. But now: Ring free, for Martina Kuenz!!!

Not only is wrestling less popular and popular as a sport than other sports, it is also not the typical "women's sport". How did you come up with that?

Martina Kuenz. I started wrestling at the age of eleven. At that time, various sports were presented in the elementary school, with the possibility to try them out, including wrestling. In the games there I even won against most of the guys, which is why everyone said I had to come by to practice at the club. And I've been there ever since.

How did it go from there?

Martina Kuenz. I had my first beginner tournaments, 2009 then the first deployment in the youth national team, 2010 I was able to qualify for the Youth Olympic Games. In the following years further successes were added, including several European and World Cup medals, 2016 the European Championship title, and the 5. Place at the WM 2017 in Paris.

How did the sports promotion work out with you during that time?

Martina Kuenz. In order to be able to concentrate fully on my training and sports, I decided to go to the sports school. This enabled me to combine training and training optimally. After that, I was in the Federal Army Sports Promotion Group for four years. Since 1st. September I'm in the police sports group now.

 

What about other hobbies at this time?

Martina Kuenz. This is difficult, of course, because the training rate is indeed very high. However, it doesn't bother me very much, I burn for my sport.

What's a typical workout week like at your place?

Martina Kuenz. This always depends on the respective time, whether the competition period is coming up, whether it is pre-season or after-season. At the moment I train daily on the mat, especially technique, as complementary training twice a week force, as well as on three days endurance in the form of HIT sentences.

How does your regeneration work with this high load?

Saturday is my day off, when I'm looking to get down and get some sleep, just not doing anything.

How do you motivate yourself?

Martina Kuenz. When wrestling, it is extremely important to always be at 100% the thing. When you have a bad day with other sports, that's usually not so bad, then you just slow down. Here, however, there is immediately one on the lid as soon as it loses your focus. So I can't be unmotivated.

At the moment, everything is a bit stressful, as I have recently been doing professional matches for a Polish club and there I am, of course, also striving to win, to give my best. However, I am very pleased about that. Otherwise, the off season in recent years has always been a time when I had to recover from various injuries. For the first time in a long time, I can train effectively at this stage. In addition, the fights in the Polish League offer me the opportunity to gain experience.

 

 

Your greatest success so far?

Martina Kuenz. Those were definitely the U23 titles for me, as well as the 5. Place in Paris. Although all the successes in the junior field have been nice, this was all just a junior area.

And your greatest defeat, your greatest depth?

Ms Martina KuenzI was very successful in the cadet field, although I had to struggle with injuries over and over again, winning titles for titles. Last year in this class I had to be operated on at the crossband after the end of the season. Although I was soon back on the mat after that, I could not keep up with my previous successes during the three-year junior phase. It was extremely hard and raised massive self-doubt in me, I questioned myself, my ability. Regular fears for the futureS

How could you overcome this time?

Martina Kuenz. Of course, I went on anyway, and as soon as I got out of junior high, things were going great again and the successes were back on track.

Is there anything you could learn from it?

Martina Kuenz. Technically, these sections may have been "empty years", but I see them more as "apprenticeships". I was able to achieve an extreme development, even in the field of force. We have analyzed a lot and placed an increased focus on strength training. this is also implemented right on the mat. This has also enabled me to improve in all other areas.

I've had a lot of experience dealing with pressure. Often I had too much respect for my opponents, which held me back, was obstructive. I've often been in combat, and I've almost been waiting for her to start right now in all her strength and take me to the mat. But nothing came. This enabled me to trust myself from the start, to trust me too, as I know that anyone can be beaten. I don't need to have any enemies. I did what I had to do, so why should she be better?

Does this match your lifestyle?

Martina Kuenz. Yes, it is. I'm a competitive type, I need the challenge and I'm growing on it.

How did you become aware of the phantom training mask?

Martina Kuenz. My colleague on the national team, Michael Wagner, has been in contact with Phantom Athletics for a long time and has been training with it. I was very interested and therefore asked them if I could test them once.

What were your first thoughts when you held them in your hands?

Martina Kuenz. I have to try them on immediately.

 

How do you remember your first training?

Martina Kuenz. I had already completed my regular training that day, so I went along with it. Back then, intensity 1 was good enough for me (laughs).

Then how did you proceed?

Ms Martina KuenzIn the following I have planned together with my trainer how best to integrate them "intelligently" into my training.

How often a week do you train with her and what kind of training?

Martina Kuenz. Currently I use it twice-3 times a week, especially for HIT training, with or without equipment, ring-specific etc. However, I would like to test soon how I can benefit from wearing it during the rounds during training matches and thus increase the post-load following the fight.

What I also like to use it for is if I still have the strength after the workout to relieve myself once again when climbing rope or jumping rope.

What was your "most extreme" experience with the phantom training mask?

Martina Kuenz. That was recently in HIT training with equipment. Especially in later rounds and high intensities, it gets quite intense quite quickly.

Do you notice any mental improvement?

Martina Kuenz. I certainly do. By getting used to performing even under difficult conditions, one learns to endure even better when it gets hard often I think when it gets rough in training: "Come on, give gas. Be glad you're not wearing a mask now."

Plus, she gives me a real confidence boost. It's like taping before a boxing match. When I put on the phantom training mask, close the rug, straighten everything out again, it's like a signal I'm giving my body. Then he knows from now on it's "Beastmode".

Your message to anyone who doubts its effectiveness?

Ms Martina KuenzI know from my own experience how well it works, as well as through contacts with numerous other top athletes. At some point, we all come to a plateau, no matter how hard we train. Then the Phantom training mask is an effective and easy way to set new training stimuli and move forward again.

The "best" comment you've heard about the phantom training mask?

Martina Kuenz. Darth Vader! But I know what she brings me.

The new colours make it even more interesting. I immediately put my own sleeve and neon body together, I like it colorful.

Although I found her extremely cool in black and she was a real looker, now people are looking even more. Especially for us girls, the possibility to assemble your own mask with PHANTOMiD is really great.

Have you got your next big goal in mind?

Martina Kuenz. There are still some battles to be fought in the Polish league, from which I want to emerge undefeated, also in order to create a good reputation for myself for the next few years. In the foreground, however, I look at the big international tournaments and, of course, the top is still in front of Olympia.
